23rd session of the Human Rights Council

Geneva, 27 May to 14 June, 2013

There were a number of opportunities to raise awareness of human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity at the  23rd session of the Human Rights Council.  These included general debate following the update by the High Commissioner, interactive dialogue with relevant Special Procedures (e.g. on violence against women, health and extrajudicial executions), relevant panels, UPR report adoptions, and general debate under items 3, 4 or 8.

It was not yet known whether South Africa would present a follow-up to resolution 17/19 on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity.
