The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a mechanism of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which allows scrutiny of the human rights records of all UN States. The UPR is a valuable tool for challenging and encouraging States to do more to protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people.
Through this box you will find information on references to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, sex characteristics in the Universal Periodic Review documents, as well as references and recommendations made during the Review Working Group sessions, and State responses to these recommendations.
