We are pleased to announce the launch of “Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics at the Universal Periodic Review”, a joint report by ARC International in collaboration with the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) and the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA).
The launch will take place on Wednesday 9 November, from 1430h to 1630h, at Room XXII, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.
The report“Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics at the Universal Periodic Review”, is a comprehensive overview of the impact the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) has had on advancing the rights of LGBTI persons.
Acknowledging the role of the UPR as the most progressive arena for the protection of the LGBTI rights at an international level, the report identifies important successes and shortfalls of the UPR process in realising these rights. The report critically assesses the challenges and ways forward for the UPR to become a greater mechanism to protect the rights of LGBTI persons and provides a number of specific recommendations to states, NGOs, legal professionals and associations.
There will be a number of speakers at the event to discuss the contents of the report and the impact that the UPR has had on protecting sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics rights at an international level.
