Extra judicial violence and killings based on sexuality and gender-HRC35 side event
On the occasion of the 35th session of the Human Rights Council, we held a side event on āExtra judicial violence and killings based on sexuality and gender: A multi-sectoral analysis and responseā.
Moderated by Arvind Narrain, (ARC Internationalās Geneva Director), the panelists were Mark Allen (Executive Director, Human Rights and Indigenous Affairs Policy at Global Affairs Canada), Agnes Callamard (UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions), Ricky Nathanson (founder of Trans* Research, Education, Advocacy & Training [TREAT] in Zimbabwe, and belongs to a number of regional and international trans, feminist and HIV networks), and Nazeeha Saeed (print, radio and TV journalist and winner of Johann-Philipp-Palm-Award for Freedom of Speech and the Press)
The panel contributed to analyze the ways in which sexuality and gender interact with violations of rights to live free from violence, torture, and deprivation of life.
