Joint SOGIESC statement on UPR recommendations
ARC International, IBAHRIĀ andĀ ILGA delivered a joint statement on SOGIESC during the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council.
The end of the second cycle of UPR is an opportunity to strengthen this mechanism and we believe that the following measures can improve the quality and impact of the SOGIESC recommendations:
To address all challenges specific to each of the LGBTI groups
To address the structural causes of violence and discrimination against LGBTI persons
To refer systematically to the Yogyakarta Principles
To address in the recommendations not only the āwhatā to achieve, but also the āhowā, by addressing the involvement of key stakeholders, including civil society, legal and health professionals
